How to Write a Resume
Writing a resume from a blank page is the hardest part — not because the content is complicated, but because it's unclear what order things go in and how much to say about each. Here's the section-by-section version.
Start with contact info
Name, phone number, email, city, and a LinkedIn link if you have one. Skip the full street address — city and state is enough in 2026. Keep this in the main body of the page, never a header or footer.
Write the summary last, place it first
A 2-3 line summary sits right under your contact info, but write it after everything else — it's easier to summarize your resume once the rest exists. State your role, years of experience or specialization, and one standout strength.
Work experience, reverse chronological
List your most recent role first. For each: job title, company, dates, and 3-4 bullet points describing what you did and the outcome, not just the responsibility. "Reduced page load time by 40% through code splitting" beats "Responsible for performance improvements."
Education
Degree, institution, graduation year. For experienced candidates this compresses to one line; for freshers it expands to include CGPA and relevant coursework.
Skills
A focused list of hard skills — tools, languages, platforms — pulled from what the job description actually asks for. Skip vague soft skills here; save those for interview conversation.
Optional sections, only if they add something
Certifications, projects, and volunteer work are worth including if they're genuinely relevant to the role — not as filler to make the page look fuller.
